 Alderley Edge Luncheon Club

The Luncheon Club (LC) which is based at the Methodish Church, provides a two course lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays during school terms for older people living the area. Members do not have to live in Alderley Edge, meet any criteria, or be referred by a doctor or social worker but they do need to be able to get themselves to LC as we do not provide transport. Members start arriving at noon and the meal is served at 12.30 p.m.

Lunches cost £3.00 and members let us know when they will be eating with us by paying one meal in advance. Some members come twice a week, some once a week and some less regularly.

The Methodist Church is easily accessible for those using walking aids, wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Parking is available for members. There is waitress service for the meal and although there is not a choice, we can serve smaller portions. Often we are able to offer ‘seconds’.

Luncheon Club is run entirely by volunteers from the Royal Voluntary Service. Volunteers generally cook once a month in teams of four. The team leader decides on the menu and does the shopping for the fresh ingredients. It is well recognized that Luncheon Club provides valuable social contact for older people but this is equally true for volunteers. We do work hard but we have lots of opportunity to chat, discover new recipes and have the satisfaction of seeing the results of our labours. Volunteers work from 10.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. or 2.00 p.m.

If you are interested in joining Luncheon Club or becoming a volunteer, please contact Anne on 01625 582514
