Alderley Edge Luncheon Club

The Luncheon Club (LC) which is based at the Methodish Church, provides a two course lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays during school terms for older people living the area. Members do not have to live in Alderley Edge, meet any criteria, or be referred by a doctor or social worker but they do need to be able to get themselves to LC as we do not provide transport. Members start arriving at noon and the meal is served at 12.30 p.m.

Lunches cost £3.00 and members let us know when they will be eating with us by paying one meal in advance. Some members come twice a week, some once a week and some less regularly.

The Methodist Church is easily accessible for those using walking aids, wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Parking is available for members. There is waitress service for the meal and although there is not a choice, we can serve smaller portions. Often we are able to offer ‘seconds’.

Luncheon Club is run entirely by volunteers from the Royal Voluntary Service. Volunteers generally cook once a month in teams of four. The team leader decides on the menu and does the shopping for the fresh ingredients. It is well recognized that Luncheon Club provides valuable social contact for older people but this is equally true for volunteers. We do work hard but we have lots of opportunity to chat, discover new recipes and have the satisfaction of seeing the results of our labours. Volunteers work from 10.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. or 2.00 p.m.

If you are interested in joining Luncheon Club or becoming a volunteer, please contact Anne on 01625 582514

Saturday 13th October 2018 at 8.00 p.m.

Manford’s Comedy Club will be bringing another show to town with a live comedy show that features four hilarious comedians who are well-known names on the UK comedy circuit and are all personally chosen by Jason Manford.

Here’s a quick introduction to the comedians appearing at this next show:

Matt Reed
Born and bred in Sunderland, insanely funny and charming, as pleasant as he is wonderfully brutal, Matt Reed is one of the funniest, quick-witted comics and MCs on the UK circuit and can keep you on the edge of your seat with the ability to skilfully destroy any heckler that has the misfortune to cross his path! Wonderfully warm Geordie!
“Brilliant, always original…one of the newest stars of comedy…the finest compere I’ve seen in a long time!” – The Leeds Guide

Brennan Reece
Brennan is a bright young rising star who was recently nominated for the prestigious Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe for his sell out show ‘Everglow’. In his few short years as a stand up comedian Brennan has received many accolades and performed all over the world, most recently in his first Australian tour.
He has been a presenter on Top Gear Extra Gear and recently supported Rob Bryden and Joe Lycett on their UK tours.
His energetic and often awkward approach to life is captured in his fast paced and vividly painted, humorous stories.

Adam Staunton
A confident and demanding stage presence has seen Scouse funnyman Adam Staunton perform alongside some of the biggest names in comedy, including John Bishop and Sarah Millican.
“What he lacks in height he certainly makes up for in talent, getting the biggest laughs of the night” – Three Weeks

Andrew Lawrence
“He is in a class of his own” – Edinburgh Evening News
One of Britain’s most subversive and intelligent comedians, Andrew Lawrence, has been lauded with many awards and nominations for his comedy including winning The BBC New Comedy Award.
On television he has appeared on Live At The Apollo, The Michael McIntyre Comedy Roadshow, Dave’s One Night Stand and as a regular on Stand Up For The Week.
