We are currently looking to fill the vacant Councillor seats on the Parish Council.

The Notice of Election is here dated 14 March 2024 and similar notices are on our three noticeboards: In essence the Parish Council will co-opt a new member unless 10 resident on Nether Alderley’s Register of Electors seek to have an election and notify the Returning Officer at Cheshire East Council. This must be done within 14 days of the publication of this notice excluding Saturdays and Sundays, bank holidays and the day of publication i.e. by 5th April 2024

Criteria for candidates: 

  • aged 18 or more
  • an elector for the parish or
  • resident of the parish for the past twelve months or
  • rented/tenanted land in the parish or
  • has his/her principal place of work in the parish or
  • living within three miles radius (as the crow flies) of the parish

There are certain disqualifications from becoming a parish councillor:

  • holding a paid office for the Parish Council
  • bankruptcy
  • having been sentenced to a term of imprisonment (whether suspended or not) of not less than three months, without the option of a fine during the five years preceding the election
  • being disqualified under any enactment relating to corrupt or illegal practice

This is essentially an unpaid position other than minor expenses but can be very rewarding.  There is a lot going on within the Parish which encompasses Alderley Park. You will join six other councillors in this role.
