Theft Of Keyless Entry Vehicles

We’ve seen an increase in the number of keyless car and van thefts. If your vehicle has keyless entry, check to see if the fob can be turned off. If it can, then do so overnight – don’t make it easy for thieves!

In response to the recent rise in car and van thefts in the area we’re asking those who own a car or van with keyless entry to please review your security – consider additional security devices such as mechanical locks and trackers.

Did you know that keyless entry cars need software updates? Keep yours secure – ask your car dealer or manufacturer what updates you can take advantage of.

If you have a keyless entry car or van, think about how you store your key at home. Keeping your fob out of sight is not enough – thieves only need to get near to the key to amplify the signal. Keep both sets of keys in a container or pouch which blocks the signal from the fob.
We are warning owners of cars with keyless entry systems to be vigilant after a rise in the number of thefts of these vehicles in the Macclesfield area. Keep an eye out for suspicious activity and report anything unusual to the police on 101.

Over the last couple of months we’ve seen an increase in the number of thefts of keyless entry cars and vans – follow our top tips to keep yours secure:
• Switch your fob off at night
• Store your fob out of sight and in a faraday bag
• Update your car’s software
• Consider fitting a tracker
• consider an old fashioned steering wheel lock
